FAQ's Is there anything I can do to treat my acne problem? Our Kelowna treatment center offers several solutions to many types of skin problems, including acne. During consultation, Dr. Prabhu will be able to determine the extent and severity of your acne problem. At this time he may recommend a combination of treatments. Our state-of-the-art Blu-U system offers effective, non-invasive and pain-free blue light treatment for moderate inflammatory acne vulgaris. Narrow band blue light causes a photodynamic effect within the pylosebaceous gland that kills P. acnes, the bacteria primarily responsible for acne vulgaris. Dr. Prabhu may recommend a more aggressive photodynamic therapy, which combines a topical photosensitizer - Levulan - with Blu-U. Levulan, or aminolevulinic acid, is a substance that occurs naturally in the body; the active ingredient is converted to a photosensitizer.
